Some images from
‘THE LAND AROUND US’

DAVID KEMP
nationally renowned as a sculptor – has been quietly painting these past four years in an old mine shed on the cliffs of West Cornwall, building up a stunning collection of images based on his immediate surroundings. Often pitching his viewpoint high above the land - sea, rocks, moors, sky all merge in an immensity of space. Several canvases can be viewed from all four angles, bringing new dimensions to this Cornish peninsula at the very edge of the landmass of Britain.

CLIVE BOWEN
Echoes in his ceramics the rounded forms and earthy tones of David Kemp’s canvases. One of our foremost living potters, Clive continues to work in a tradition that can be traced back to English medieval slipware. His handling of clay, form and decoration, however, is unmistakably his own. There are about 40 pots in this new collection.

MARK HEARLD
Mark Hearld, who has an M.A. in Natural History Illustration from the Royal College of Art, delights in the flora and fauna of the English countryside, and often teases with a touch of the unexpected in his compositions. His admiration for mid C20th artist/designers such as Bawden, Piper, Nash who worked stylistically from nature, is evident in the design and palette of some of Mark’s paintings, lithographs and linocuts, as well as his collection of decorated ceramic platters.
